Why PACKTUM and why US?
How do companies start?
The “zero moment” when there is only the person and the idea. The idea is the maximum expression of a human being. We evolve thanks to new ideas.
A need, and especially a shortcoming, generate new ideas; when we need an object, a service or some knowledge capable of solving our problem.
Well this is exactly what happened.
I had key responsibilities in a large, family-owned, global company in the field of industrial labeling. An impeccable organization in a context of a highly disciplined culture. Few production centers in Europe. First-rate global, continental and national clients. At the beginning of December 2014, one of the factories, the main one in Europe, with a production quota of more than 50% of its supplies in Europe, suffered a severe incident that left it “out of the game” for a year.
In 24 hours, all the failures came out. What could go wrong turned out worse. Mr Murphy was running wild.
Contingency plans never tested; scarce knowledge of the industry players, without the necessary production support in place; an operational management with strong internal and external communication limitations; first-rate customers eager for information that did not reach them for their decision-making.
Fortunately, the Supply Chain and Planning staff, including the Customer Service Team, demonstrated a strong capability for reaction, dedication and proactivity from the first “combat” line, facing intense conversations and negotiations with clients, analyzing massive documents with forecasts where everything was important and top priority.
The episode severely affected my health on February 20, 2015, leaving me “out of action” for 6 months.
This event was my ZERO MOMENT.

The return to the company changed everything. Still in recovery but with enough clairvoyance to read “Game Over” signs.
Destiny offers you the opportunity to try something completely different: your own project. An initiative that I would never have tried had it not been for these circumstances; Fully identified with the company and its property, felt (before the episode) highly valued, with increasing responsibilities without asking for them, full of ideas and hopes for the future, and very well compensated. Who would give it all up to face an uncertainty? No one, let’s be realistic.
On March 1, 2016, the first draft of the idea that turned into a business model began to take form on a blank page: a consultancy for the design, implementation and testing of contingency operating plans, through collaboration between Twin companies in non-competitive environments, aimed at SMEs, initially in the industrial printing sector.
You project yourself into the future; you visualise your idea, the activity, the team, the clients (still without a name and surname).s.
You don’t see the details, but you see its shape. You talk to your surroundings; You verbalize your idea and listen to yourself.
PACKTUM’S VISION is to consolidate a European operating network of small and medium-sized companies, who can offer their customers an incident-proof supply capability, thanks to a verified and proven Contingency Plan. Initially in the printed packaging sector, with the intention to expand the method to other industrial sectors.
THE BRAND: Why PACKTUM?
The essence of the idea that sustains the Contingency Plan is the PACT between two companies.
It was necessary to add the “K” to make the name more “packaging”, so we arrived at the PACKT. And since agreements have to be formalized with contracts, we put a touch of “Latin legality” to the name and thus PACKTUM emerged.
I placed the brand’s aethetics in the hands of a professional: Jordi Bardolet, co-owner of the creative agency AMBAR PARTNERS.
Jordi wanted to contribute to my project with his creativity. We met professionally, collaborating on projects for label printing. Strong and sincere life ties were established. His contribution was an altruistic support and for me a gift that left me speechless.
He gathered his team, listened to me carefully, asked me some details to better understand my project.
